Using DT-300 Digitrax Throttles

By Jim Quarles

The DT-300 is a more complex throttle, which opens up more powerful options to the user.  Two of which are programming the various memory locations (called CV’s) in the loco receiver and consisting locomotives.

Consisting is a method of allowing the user to group several locomotives together so that one throttle will control the group of locomotives.  Consider if you had several powered diesel units and you wished to pull a train with them.  Group them all together with the first unit the ID number to address them all and when you selected the group by this number they would all respond to the throttle and direction control.  It’s a simple way to control a consist, or possibly a steamer with a helper (even on the end of the train).

How do you change from one throttle to another for actions? Just move the desired throttle knob.

Reversing loco directions - press twice the knob that is controlling the desired loco.

With this throttle you CAN drive two locos at once, but it’s a operation that is looking for a place to have an accident – I can tell you from experience!!!! That left most throttle is more useful for adding/subtracting locos from a consist.
